Our headquarters in The Netherlands are, on a daily basis, in touch with our staff in Africa on the ground so we are aware of everything that is going on at our destinations. That way, we are able to respiond to any situation immediately and effectively. Working with Doingoood means working with a reliable party that has the wellbeing of your clients as a first priority.

Volunteering and internships

We offer volunteering and internship opportunities in Uganda and Malawi. We run our own organization and manage all programs, in these countries, ourselves. We have Dutch volunteer coordinators on the ground who receives volunteers and interns, introduces them to projects, we host them at our own accommodation and our coordinator is 24/7 standby. The coordinator is fully committed to deliver the best possible services to volunteers and interns. We collaborate with locally founded (and fully registred) charitable projects.

The projects we work with are to be classified as:

  1. Educational projects
  2. Health Care projects

  5. Eco/ Wildlife project

Participants have 3 different options:

  1. Individual volunteering

Individual volunteering

Applicants choose their favourite project and will volunteer for a minimum of 4 weeks. During their stay they will be received and guided by the Doingoood volunteer coordinator. We have a Dutch coordinator, assisted by local supervisors. The volunteer will participate in the day to day activities at the chosen project. The volunteer will stay at our volunteer accommodation. They travel independently daily (5 days per week) by public transport to their project. Our coordinator offers a proper introduction to the city, the public transport and the project on their first days. The coordinator will check on the volunteers well being and satisfaction each week and she is 24/7 available in case bof questions, challenges or other needs.

Internship

Social Safari Experience (SSE)

The SSE is a 15- or 22-days group trip which offers a unique combination of volunteering and travelling. We have a day to day program and each day offers adventurous and interesting activities. On the days of volunteering (2 and 3 consecutive days at a project) we actually work at the project (not just visiting). The goal of the work we do on the days of volunteering is that we are able to complete the work within the available time. Example: we repaint a class room, we take children with disabilities on a fun day out, we organize sports and games for street children.

The SSE is a fully guided trip, with the tour leader staying with and guiding the group the whole time. We will stay in a hostel during the days of volunteering and exploring the city. During the safaris we will stay at a safari camp.

Responsible voluntourism

We strongly believe in mutual respect for our African partners and responsible voluntourism. We follow the international guidelines for voluntourism as set up by TIES. In The Netherlands we are proudly selected to be granted the IFO | Fairtravelers quality mark. Moreover we have implemented the 6 guidelines from The Code. The Code (short for “The Code of Conduct for the Protection of Children from Sexual Exploitation in Travel and Tourism”) is an industry-driven responsible tourism initiative with a mission to provide awareness, tools and support to the tourism industry in order to prevent the sexual exploitation of children.

High quality standards

We are very selective with the projects we work with and we maintain high quality standards in all of our work processes and services. In Uganda and Malawi we run our entire operation with our own staff, enabling us to closely monitor and guide the situation on the ground. We are able to respond to any needs and requests directly. We visit all of our projects on a weekly basis so that we know exactly what is going on and solve any challenge immediately and adequately. The safety and well being of our volunteers, interns and travelers are our number one concern at all times. Our safety and security guidelines provide us with a calamity protocol which enables our staff to respond to any emergency immediately and effectively. We are regularly in touch with the embassies of the countries of origin from all of our guests so we are informed about all up to date in-country information
